Current Team Members

SARAH MALKOWSKI, Senior Strategy Associate

Sarah joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in the summer of 2020 and worked as a Swensen Fellow 2020-2022. She graduated from Yale in 2020 with a PhD in Chemistry, where her thesis work focused on the discovery and validation of bacterial noncoding regulatory RNAs. As a graduate student, Sarah was heavily involved in student government and the Chemistry Department's Diversity and Climate Committee. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new recipes and spending time with her husband, daughter and dog. Sarah received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Rhodes College.

 

NISHI FELTON, Swensen Fellow

Nishi joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in 2022 after graduating from Yale College with a B.A. in Ethics, Politics and Economics. She also completed the Human Rights Program at Yale Law School. As an undergraduate, she worked as a Tobin research assistant studying commuting infrastructure in the United States. She also worked as a German language tutor and as a peer liaison for the Office of International Students and Scholars. She was born and raised in Windhoek, Namibia and Mbabane, eSwatini and is interested in public policy and human rights in Southern Africa. In her free time, she enjoys baking and learning new languages.

 

ABI HEUER, Swensen Fellow

Abi joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in the fall of 2022. She graduated from Yale in 2022 with a PhD in Chemistry, where her thesis work focused on the analysis of H-atom transfer reactions at carbon-centered radicals. As a graduate student, Abi was involved in the Chemistry Department’s Joint Safety Team and Diversity and Climate Committee. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN). In her free time, she enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, and listening to true crime podcasts.

 

MEHMED CAN OLGAC, Swensen Fellow

Mehmed Can joined the Office of Strategic Analysis as a Swensen Fellow in the summer of 2022 after graduating from Yale College with a B.S. in Statistics and Data Science (S&DS) and a B.A. in History. As an undergraduate at Yale, Mehmed Can worked as a learning assistant for the S&DS Department and helped with the teaching of classes such as: Theory of Statistics, Linear Models and Data Analysis. Aside from academics, he was also involved with the international community at Yale, serving as an OISS peer liaison and as the president of the Turkish Students Association (TSA) in his junior and senior years. In his free time, Mehmed Can enjoys swimming, watching sports events, going to the films, and reading novels.

 

KIMBERLEY BAKO, Swensen Fellow

Kimberley joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in the summer of 2023 after graduating from Yale School of Public Health with an MPH in Health Policy. As a graduate student, Kimberley was a Graduate Assistant for the Yale College Executive Committee, and she was also involved in pediatric obesity research at the School of Medicine. She received her B.A. in Global Health at Davidson College in North Carolina and was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. In her free time, Kimberley enjoys sewing and spending time with her family.

 

SAMVIDA RUNGTA, Swensen Fellow

Samvida joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in the summer of 2023 after graduating with a Master of Management from the Yale School of Management. Prior to this, she completed the first year of her Master’s from HEC Paris, and then spent a year working as a Business Analyst at Estee Lauder and Russell Reynolds. Her main tasks included retail sales analysis, leading the launch of a product, and increasing efficiency by automating a dashboard. She received her B.A. in Economics from Ashoka University, India. In her free time, Samvida enjoys reading, swimming, and playing with her niece!

 

SIDNEY SCOTT, Director of Strategic Analysis

Sidney joined Yale as the Director of the Strategic Analysis team in July 2023. In this role, she manages the Swensen Fellows and oversees the SA team’s projects. Prior to this role, Sidney was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, leading strategy consulting teams and primarily serving clients in the education sector. Sidney holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a B.A. in Education Studies (History & Policy concentration) from Brown University. Prior to receiving her MBA from Yale, she was an elementary school teacher for five years, in DC and New Orleans. In her free time, Sidney enjoys reading, going on long walks with her dogs, volunteering, and writing creatively.

 

CHAD LOSEE, Head of Strategy

Chad Losee joined Yale in January 2023 and oversees the Office of Strategic Analysis and the Office of Institutional Research. He came to Yale from Harvard Business School, where he served as head of MBA admissions and financial aid from 2016-2022. Prior to this, Chad worked at Bain & Company in Dallas, Texas and Stockholm, Sweden for five years. In the middle of his time at Bain & Co., he completed an MBA at Harvard and then stayed for an additional year as part of the founding team for HBS Online. Chad holds a B.A. in international relations from Brigham Young University, an MBA from HBS, and a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania. In his free time, Chad enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and four boys.

Founder

TIM PAVLIS, Associate Vice President for Strategy and Analytics

Tim joined Yale in 2015 as the AVP for Strategy and Analytics. He founded the Swensen Fellows program and oversaw the Office of Institutional Research. Prior to joining Yale, Tim spent most of his career in strategy consulting, most recently as a Principal in Bain & Company’s San Francisco office. He began his career as an analyst at J.P. Morgan in New York and then dabbled with academia in philosophy grad school – a most likely combination! He is grateful for the opportunity to utilize these experiences in the service of Yale, and enjoys mentoring the Fellows in the program. Outside of work, Tim relishes spending time with his wife, Lauren, and two young children. They love hiking and travel, and his kids have encouraged him to dust off his guitar as part of the family band “Treebark.” Tim earned his A.B. in Physics from Princeton.

JENNIFER TOM, Director of Strategic Analysis

Jennifer leads the Strategic Analysis team and works directly with the most senior individuals at the university addressing the university’s strategic opportunities and challenges. Prior to Yale, Jennifer worked at the Boston Consulting Group where she advised industry-leading life science companies and higher education institutions. Her experience also includes investment banking at UBS and serving as a Social Enterprise Fellow for Partners in Health in Haiti and Rwanda. In her free time, she enjoys food and travel adventuring with her husband and their three little ones. Jennifer holds a BSc in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a MSc in International Health Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a MBA from Harvard Business School.

  • Sooyong Kwon, Swensen Fellow 2021 - 2023

Sooyong graduated from Yale College with a B.A. in Ethics, Politics and Economics. He is currently pursuing a J.D. at the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Johnathan Mitchell, Swensen Fellow 2021 - 2022

Jonathan graduated from Yale with his MBA and a focus on management science in 2021. Prior to graduate school, he worked for Teach For America as a corps member, program manager, and the Director of Data, Research, & Strategy. Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Utah University, where he studied Economics and Fine Arts.

  • Sanelma Heinonen, Swensen Fellow 2020 - 2022

Sanelma joined the Office of Strategic Analysis as a Swensen Fellow in 2020, shortly after graduating from Yale College with a BA in Mathematics and a certificate in German Language. Sanelma is currently pursuing her Master's at ETH Zurich.

  • Tabish Azeem, Swensen Fellow 2019 - 2021

Tabish graduated from the Yale Jackson Institute with an MA in Global Affairs in 2019. Before Yale, Tabish received his bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology in India and worked with the Government of India as a Prime Minister's Fellow. After the fellowship, Tabish joined McKinsey as a Business Associate.

  • Zeshan Gondal, Swensen Fellow 2019-2021

Zeshan graduated from Yale College with a Bachelor of Arts in 2019. After the fellowship, Zeshan entered Harvard Business School.

  • Naureen Rashid, Special Adviser for Strategy and Academic Business Operations 2019-2020, Swensen Fellow 2017-2019

Naureen received a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale College in 2014 and a M.A. in Economics from Columbia University in 2017. Prior to working at Yale, Naureen worked as a financial analyst at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, focusing on payday lending and financial literacy. Naureen currently serves as Program Manager and Data Analyst at UC San Diego.

  • Opelo Matome, Swensen Fellow 2018-2020

Opelo Matome was born and raised in Gaborone, Botswana and graduated from Yale College in 2018 with a BA in Economics. After the fellowship, Opelo completed a graduate degree in International Education Policy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

  • Yuwei Jiang, Swensen Fellow 2018-2020

Yuwei graduated from Yale GSAS in 2018 with a Master of Arts in Statistics & Data Science. After the fellowship, Yuwei is pursuing a graduate degree in East Asian Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, with a focus on China.

Interns

  • Sharan Subramanian, Graduate Summer Intern 2023

Sharan joined the Office of Strategic Analysis as a summer intern in 2023. He is currently pursuing his MBA at Yale, and, as an undergraduate, he majored in Economics and Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago. Previously, Sharan worked at Curriculum Associates, an EdTech company, as part of its Management Development Program. Here, he rotated around the organization, working in different functional areas (such as Strategy and Product Management). In his free time, Sharan enjoys playing and teaching the game of chess.

  • Elizabeth Banes, Graduate Summer Intern 2022

Elizabeth joined the Office of Strategic Analysis as a summer intern in 2022. She is currently pursuing an MBA at Yale’s School of Management. Prior to Yale, Elizabeth worked at Ithaka S+R, a research-focused not-for-profit that helps academic communities navigate change, broaden access, and improve student success. She began her career as an investment analyst at Princeton University Investment Company (PRINCO), the office that manages Princeton University’s endowment, where she worked on the natural resources and real estate portfolios. Elizabeth received her A.B. in History from Princeton.

  • Matt Song, Undergraduate Summer Intern 2022

Matt joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in 2022 as a summer intern. Originally from Michigan and Shanghai, he is now a rising junior at Yale College majoring in Ethics, Politics, & Economics. He is most interested in emerging policy challenges such as environmental and technology policy. On campus, Matt leads the Yale Debate Association, the Yale Policy Institute, and the Yale Club Badminton team.

  • Max Scalf, GPE Fellow Intern Spring 2022

Max joined the Office of Strategic Analysis as a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Professional Experience (GPE) fellow in the spring of 2022. He is pursuing his PhD in the Cell Biology department with his advisor Shangqin Guo. His thesis work focuses on discovering the molecular mechanisms that permit reprogramming mature cells into pluripotent stem cells. Max received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky.

  • Alice Geng, Undergraduate Summer Intern 2021

Alice joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in 2021 as a summer intern before her junior year at Yale College. She is double majoring in Economics and Statistics & Data Science. In summer 2022, Alice is interning at Goldman Sachs.

Perry joined the Office of Strategic Analysis in 2021 as a summer intern while a rising senior in Saybrook college. Originally from Brooklyn, Perry is studying Global Affairs and Chinese. Perry will join BCG as a Summer Associate in 2022.

Nathan joined the Office of Strategic Analysis as a summer intern in 2019 while pursuing a B.S. in Applied Mathematics at Yale College. He will be working for Bain after graduation.

Hillary earned a BA in Anthropology from Davidson College and graduated from Yale School of Management with her MBA in 2020. She currently works as a consultant at Guild Education.
